Integrative Child Therapy

Integrative child therapy is a relatively short form of child therapy and is especially designed for children between the ages of 4 – 12. The therapy is directed at the inner-world of the child and at the relations that your child experiences in his or her outside world (such as school and within the family itself). Integrative Child Therapy is a way to get from the present situation to the desired situation in a playful, creative manner. The most important aspect of Integrative Child Therapy is that your child, with his or her complaint, is the center of the therapy. This form of therapy is called integrative because it combines various models and streams known in psychology:

  • The Medical model: dealing with physical causes and symptoms
  • The Stress model: examining the proportion between your child’s ability and the problems or challenges he or she are facing..
  • Model of cognition and learning theory: aimed at learning and unlearning behavior
  • Psychodynamic model: focusing on the “un dealt with” past
  • System- and communication model: targeting the complete family system
  • Transpersonal model: targeting the search for meaning and the shaping of identity

The purpose of the sessions is to help your child regain control of his or her own life, and to give them the possibility to develop and discover their own choices in respect to their problem. We believe that this way the child can go on living his or her life in a healthy way.
